Fragile Existence is made by solo developer Lee Harris of Fragile Continuum, based in the UK.
The game is being built in the Unity Engine.
Development began in May 2020.
Aiming to release Late 2022.
The genre is a little hard to define, but it roughly falls into the RTS / 4X bracket, with some grand strategy and survival/resource elements thrown in.
Target platform is only PC so far, but that may change. Planning to launch on Steam.
Game-modes include a single-player non-linear campaign, and a skirmish/scenario mode.
Official modding support built-in to the game itself through planet/system/scenario editors.
After an overwhelming attack on Earth and the settled worlds by an unknown enemy force, take command of the last fleet of humanity, ships and factions thrown together by circumstance and forced to adapt whilst striving to survive.
Players will direct ships through space and across orbital spheres, then launch ground expeditions to acquire the resources and supplies needed to keep their precious passengers alive and well.
They will harvest minerals, seek out salvage and survivors of the attack, and build defensive positions and bases to support their ground operations across fully 3D planet surfaces spread throughout a vast solar system.
Seamlessly travel between solar systems via the cascade, choosing the next system to explore based on recon reports, leading to a non-linear single-player experience.
Keep the rival factions happy or risk unrest aboard the fleet, fight to survive where necessary and research new technology to adapt to new threats.
Stay ahead of the enemy fleet-- they seem intent on wiping out the last of humanity, and will always find you before long. Evacuate your forces, and fight a rear-guard action for as long as you need to jump the fleet to the next system.
